I have this insane idea

I miss drawing comics. But I don't miss the grind. When I was drawing indie comics, back in the mid-2000s, it was a lot of fun, but it left me with little time to do anything else. Except raise a family and work 40+ hours a week. But, that was a long time ago, and my kids are grown-to-nearly-grown.

The trouble with doing comics is the commitment. It takes a lot of time, especially if you're doing everything yourself. Which I pretty much was. I had a great letterer, though.

My other issue is juggling projects. I have a lot of irons in the fire and I'm passionate about all of them.

So, starting with the new year, I'm going to attempt the impossible: One page a week. That's pencils, inks, colors and letters. Luckily, I still have that great letterer. I'll post each page here as I finish them, then eventually, if the story is finished, or I find an interesting place to stop, I'll put the book together as a print-on-demand book, something that didn't really exist back in the mid-2000s.

The question is, what to do. I really just want to do some over-the-top, bombastic fun. When I think over-the-top, bombastic fun, my mind immediately goes to the luchadors of the 1950s through the 1970s, the late 50s to the early 60s being their Golden Age.

Rather than create my own luchador from the ground up, I'm going to tap into another one of my great loves: public domain superheroes. One of the most popular PD superheroes is the Golden Age Daredevil. He's also a ton of fun to draw and his primary colors make him easily identifiable. Which is kind of what I want, something fun to draw and easily identifiable.

The problem lies in his name, as Marvel owns the name "Daredevil." But, what they don't own is the name "El Temerario!" Which, I hope, is Spanish for The Daredevil." According to Google, it is, so there's that.

I've got an El Temerario story idea I've been playing around with for a few months now, so starting at the beginning of next year, I'm going to challenge myself to a page a day of the adventures of El Temerario!

 (Art by yours truly)

Now, I just have to figure out if this whole idea borders on cultural appropriation, or not...
