DOOMED WIZARD DIARIES

  The Junkyard Joe trade paperback was a fun read, though I don't plan to follow along with whatever the epilogue was eluding to. I think this works better as a done-in-one, small, personal story. And I can buy a killer robot finding their humanity (Iron Giant, anyone?), but what I can't buy, being from small town Indiana, is a small town in Indiana including Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in their official winter holiday celebration. I get what Johns was going for though, with comic strip creator "Muddy" Davis, an obvious nod to Garfield creator Jim Davis, so why not Indiana? And that's honestly a tiny gripe for what is actually a good story. Gary Frank and Brad Anderson deliver some solid art as well.

I miss drawing comics. But I don't miss the grind. When I was drawing indie comics, back in the mid-2000s, it was a lot of fun, but it left me with little time to do anything else. Except raise a family and work 40+ hours a week. But, that was a long time ago, and my kids are grown-to-nearly-grown.  The trouble with doing comics is the commitment. It takes a lot of time, especially if you're doing everything yourself. Which I pretty much was. I had a great letterer, though. My other issue is juggling projects. I have a lot of irons in the fire and I'm passionate about all of them. So, starting with the new year, I'm going to attempt the impossible: One page a week. That's pencils, inks, colors and letters. Luckily, I still have that great letterer. I'll post each page here as I finish them, then eventually, if the story is finished, or I find an interesting place to stop, I'll put the book together as a print-on-demand book, something that didn't really ...
