Day of the Outlaw

Image
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a couple of Tarantino's movies quite a bit, "Reservoir Dogs" is one of my top five favorite movies, but 1959's "Day of the Outlaw" is just more proof that his career is just a pastiche of a bunch of other movies he likes.

Getting Ahead of Myself (Luckily for you)

Image
So, I was planning on beginning work of my El Temerario comic in January, but, while learning how to lay out images in my Photoshop knockoff, so that I wouldn't have to learn it in January and kill my buzz for the project, I discovered I had created the first three pages of the story. Here's a peek: As for word balloons and all that, you'll just have to wait. Sorry.

Junkyard Joe Review!

Image
The Junkyard Joe trade paperback was a fun read, though I don't plan to follow along with whatever the epilogue was eluding to. I think this works better as a done-in-one, small, personal story. And I can buy a killer robot finding their humanity (Iron Giant, anyone?), but what I can't buy, being from small town Indiana, is a small town in Indiana including Hanukkah and Kwanzaa in their official winter holiday celebration. I get what Johns was going for though, with comic strip creator "Muddy" Davis, an obvious nod to Garfield creator Jim Davis, so why not Indiana? And that's honestly a tiny gripe for what is actually a good story. Gary Frank and Brad Anderson deliver some solid art as well.

Hey it is, folks! The official Doomed Wizard Society membership certificate. To join the official Doomed Wizard Society, just print yourself up a copy of the hansom certificate below (suitable for framing), and that's pretty much it. Oh, and one more thing, as a member of the Doomed Wizard Society, just be a good person.

I have this insane idea

I miss drawing comics. But I don't miss the grind. When I was drawing indie comics, back in the mid-2000s, it was a lot of fun, but it left me with little time to do anything else. Except raise a family and work 40+ hours a week. But, that was a long time ago, and my kids are grown-to-nearly-grown.  The trouble with doing comics is the commitment. It takes a lot of time, especially if you're doing everything yourself. Which I pretty much was. I had a great letterer, though. My other issue is juggling projects. I have a lot of irons in the fire and I'm passionate about all of them. So, starting with the new year, I'm going to attempt the impossible: One page a week. That's pencils, inks, colors and letters. Luckily, I still have that great letterer. I'll post each page here as I finish them, then eventually, if the story is finished, or I find an interesting place to stop, I'll put the book together as a print-on-demand book, something that didn't really ...

Dead of Night!

Image
So, this Saturday, Svengoolie actually ran a Dan Curtis movie we hadn't seen, so naturally we had to make a video and talk about it. So, without further fanfare, behold: Dead of Night (A Review)

The Following Is Based On A True Story...

A conversation I had recently, via text, with my best friend Steve: Steve: I want somebody to follow me around and write down things I tell them. Then they can figure out good blog material and handle that for me. Me:  Just fucking record something and put it in your blog. Like, realize what you said was good, repeat it, then type it. Don't over think it. Also me, hours later: Sorry. Didn't mean to yell . It was more me reminding myself.
